Healthgrades has announced the recipients of its 2017 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™. SpecialtyCare provides one or more services in over 50 percent of these hospitals. The distinguished hospitals performed in the top 5% in the nation, with lowest risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates when treating patients for cardiac disease, neurologic disease, and infections. We congratulate our clinical partners, and all of the 2017 recipients, for this significant achievement and their ongoing excellence in patient care and quality.

According to Healthgrades, which is a leading resource for information about hospitals and physicians, the evaluation found that compared to non-recipient hospitals, patients treated in hospitals receiving the award had, on average, a lower risk of dying for these common inpatient conditions and procedures:

  • 22.5% lower risk of dying of a heart attack
  • 30.5% lower risk of dying of heart failure
  • 36.7% lower risk of dying of pneumonia
  • 25.0% lower risk of dying of stroke
  • 25.1% lower risk of dying of sepsis
  • 24.4% lower risk of dying of respiratory failure

Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades, said, “[H]igh marks in clinical quality are a major differentiator for hospitals, and have a profound effect on consumers when they make decisions about where to receive care. The hospitals that have achieved this distinction stand out from their peers because of their commitment to high quality clinical outcomes for their patients.”
